Afghan- Handmade in Afghanistan

These particular rugs are all handmade by Afghan refugees in the surrounding villages of Peshawar, the Capital of N.W.F.P., Pakistan which is bordering Afghanistan. They use all-natural fibers, soft, clean, and finest shiny wool on the pile as well as on foundation with vegetable dye in the construction of the piece. These rugs are antique look similar to those originals of the 18th century Kazak rugs.

 

Afghan Kilim- Handmade in Afghanistan

Afghan Kilims are usually made by Afghan tribes in the northern areas of the country bordering Russia. They are made in the same style as Russian Sumak Kilims.

Afghan Kilims are also made in Baluchistan located in the southwest of the country. These Kilim are made in the same style as Persian Kilim.

Afghan Kilims are usually made with wool and have special charm and originality using dark colors.

 

War Rugs- Handmade in Afghanistan

This is an unusual war rug different than many other rugs you've seen. Design is showing the weapon of wartime like tanks, choppers, guns, and ruffles. War rugs are one of the most interesting rugs ever made. These rugs are designed in memory of the invasion of Afghanistan by the Soviets. Most of the war rugs are designed with ammunitions such as Choppers, Tanks, rifles, and grenades.

There are also some unusual war rugs made with interesting designs as a scene from a civilian war or with a design from a map of Afghanistan with some objects and messages.

These rugs are not made for comical use, they are merely made to express the memories of simple Afghan people during wartime.

Densely crafted Needlepoint rugs are gorgeously made with a flat weave, no hair pile, on a low warp loom and have the same texture and feel as those made centuries ago in Aubusson France.

The designs follow the original 19th-century Napoleon II Aubusson carpet, in great detail. They are executed in a recreated Aubusson workshop in China under the supervision of French designers and craftsmen.

Mahal- Soltanabad  Handmade in India

The wonderful colors of this particular rug are all-antique but yet rich with life, not bright at all but easy which makes it easy to work magnificently with a multitude of interiors: Traditional, Modern, Arts & Crafts, and Victorian.

Afshar-Handmade in Iran

Afshar rugs are woven on horizontal looms in Nomadic tradition. These rugs are not woven for commercial distribution, but for the nomad’s own usage. In addition to rugs, Afshar tribes make tent bags, salt bags, saddlebags, and other nomadic weavings and textiles.

They herd their own sheep, spin the wool, dye the wool, and weave the rugs. Using a Turkish symmetrical knot, the rugs are principal of wool pile on a wool foundation of warp and weft. They are mostly geometric in design and incorporate animals and birds figures.

Afshar rugs are highly sought after by decorators and westerners due to their great appeal and versatility. They run a range of quality from primitive to fine. They are very durable and will endure lifetimes of use.

 

Ardebil-Handmade in Iran

Ardabil rugs are an example of the melding of different types of textile production. They can even have gold or silver woven into their design, as with rugs of the neighboring local, Tabriz.

The Ardabil rugs are hand-knotted on a cotton foundation. The finest of them may be constructed with a pile of pure wool. It may take several months or several years for a weaver to complete an Ardebil rug. They are very dense and durable and capable of lasting for many generations.

Bidjar-Handmade in Iran

Bidjar/Bijar rugs are tightly woven, and highly prized for their thick but very tightly packed weft. Bidjar rugs are appreciated not only for their rich design and character but also for their strong, dense quality, hence, they are being called "Iron rugs".

Hamadan rugs are handmade in the city of Hamadan in Iran and surrounding villages most famous for tribal and nomadic rugs.

This particular rug was made in the 1980s and it is in perfect condition, clean like new, with no problem whatsoever.

 

Herati- Mahal. Handmade in Iran

Herati rugs are known for their traditional design of MAHI (Fish in Persian), throughout the field. Because the Herati design is not so complicated/congested in the design, there are easy to work and decorate with.

MAHI design is used for over a century in Iran and in India. Nowadays, Indian rug producers use MAHI design on fine wool imported from New Zealand and make them dense and tight with 200 KPSI using an up-to-date color combination. These rugs are made with 3/8” of height in pile and are expected to last for generations

 

Persian Heriz--Handmade in Iran

Heriz is a small town located northwest of Iran, which is renowned and revered for decorative and mostly geometric-patterned rugs.

Although the Heriz rugs are not woven with a high knot count, nowadays the Hertz rugs are valuable for their look and colors, as well as their charming characters.

The older and antique Heriz rugs, even in worn conditions, are still among the most wanted antique decorative rugs; they have high value and are very rare.

Heriz rugs are typically produced without any graphing or sketching aid, using the weaver's traditional techniques/imagination.

The weavers in Husseinabad and the surrounding towns in Iran produce mostly tribal and nomadic rugs. The designs are individual and woven without any graphing or sketching aid, consisting mainly of semi-floral and semi-geometric patterns. The designs are very traditional to the weaver’s family or left to the weaver’s imagination. Due to Husseinabad’s proximity to the Caucasus region, there are also Caucasian motifs seen in these rugs.

Both the Persian symmetrical knot and the Turkish symmetrical knot are used. Many of the rugs are woven on cotton warp and weft but there is also a great number woven on wool warp and weft. The wool is frequently hand spun and dyed with vegetable dyes.

Husseinabad rugs are of good quality and will last a lifetime.

Persian Esfahan-Wool Rug -Handmade in Iran

These rugs are about 30-40 years old and would last another 50-60 years before starting to wear.  They are woven in Esfahan, the legendary center of Persian rug and Textiles. It is in excellent condition, no damage, no repair, and clean (professionally cleaned just recently).

Fine Isfahan- Wool and Silk Handmade in Iran

Isfahan (Esfahan) carpets are among the best Persian carpets ever produced and they are both durable and decorative. The new Isfahan rugs usually come in beige or light blue. In some cases, many colors are utilized for disparity including shades of red.

The designs are exquisite. They are elaborately drawn and precisely executed patterns of floral shapes and exotic birds.

They are woven in a full range of sizes and are one of the most sought-after of all Persian tribal rugs today. The design is sufficiently versatile to be used in a wide range of décor, making it a lovely addition to your home. They will also last for several generations.

 

Iran-Handmade in Karaja

Karaja rugs are a wonderful addition to your home. The pile of these rugs is thick lustrous wool, handspun from local sheep. The wool is grown on sheep grazing at high altitudes in cold weather. The result is durable, lustrous soft wool unmatched by any other, especially after being dyed with natural colors.

It is then woven on cotton warp and weft. There can be a range of styles from coarse to very fine. Very fine examples can even be of raw silk warp and double weft of cotton with silk pile.

Fine antique examples of Kashan rugs are found in museums dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Although the Kashan rugs have usually traditional floral designs, they are easy to decorate with any kind of nontraditional setting as well.

Mashad --Kashmar-Handmade in Iran

Kashmar-IRAN rugs and those of the Khorasan province are hand-knotted wool on a predominantly cotton foundation warp and weft. They are hand-knotted by master weavers. It takes many years to achieve the designation of a master weaver and It may take a Master weaver several months to several years to complete a single carpet. Carpets from this region are capable of lasting several lifetimes. Westerners and designers value them for their harmonious designs and versatility.

The wool is individually hand-knotted. The foundation of the rug is typically cotton warp and weft, and the pile is most commonly wool.

The design, while mainly floral, can incorporate items from nature. The wool used in Kerman is frequently cork wool, which is very soft wool from lamb.

The Kurdish people have contributed a great deal to Iran's rug industry, with traces of Kurds seen in all the provinces of the nation, well establishing their unique style in rug production. A few major Kurdish rug-producing centers are Senneh, Bidjar, and the district of Khamseh. Many other major rugs producing centers of Iran, such as Hamadan, Lorestan, or even Arak show obvious traces of Kurdish influence. The Kurds are peaceful people who prefer their simple Nomadic life to the complexities and frustrations of modern city life. This is reflected in their design of  Koliai rugs.

Malayer is an example of a fine tribal rug with softer and better quality wool, woven with a more even texture. The Persian symmetrical knot is used in weaving Malayer, as is the Turkish symmetrical knot. Many of the rugs are woven on cotton warp and weft but there is also a great number woven on wool warp and weft. The wool is frequently hand spun and dyed with vegetable dyes.

Due to Malayer’s location, there are also Caucasian motifs seen in these rugs. Malayer rugs are of good quality and will last a lifetime.

 

Mashad-Handmade in Iran

Mashad rugs and those of the Khorasan province of Iran are wool hand-knotted on a predominantly cotton foundation warp and weft.

The carpets woven in the cities such as Mashad, Mood, Birjand, and Kashmar are woven from graphs. They are hand-knotted by master weavers. It takes many years to achieve the designation of a master weaver, and it may take a weaver several months to several years to produce a single carpet.

Mashad rugs range in dimension from small mats to room size. They are finely executed floral carpets with beautiful central medallions. These rugs also incorporate a full range of color palettes.

Carpets from the Khorasan province of Iran including Mashad are long-lasting. Westerners, designers, and decorators value them for their harmonious designs, versatility, and rich colors, which are ideal for traditional homes. 

  

Mood-Handmade in Iran

Mood rugs and those of the Khorasan province of Iran are wool hand-knotted on a predominantly cotton foundation warp and weft. Less common are carpets of wool and silk-blend woven on cotton or rugs woven on a silk foundation.

The carpets woven in the cities such as Mashad, Mood, Bijan, and Kashmar are woven from graphs. They are hand-knotted by master weavers and may take several months to years to successfully complete one rug. It also takes many years to achieve the designation of a master weaver.

Mood rugs range in size from small mats to room size. They are mainly finely executed floral carpets with beautiful central medallions. In Mood carpets, it is possible to see the influence of Mosque architecture in the design of the rug. This is particularly true of the central medallion of some of the rugs.

They incorporate a full range of color palettes into their carpets. Carpets from this region are capable of lasting several lifetimes. Mood rugs are valued by Westerners, decorators, and designers for their harmonious designs and versatility.

 

Persian Nahavand-Handmade in Iran

Nahavand, a historical city in Iran is one of the ancient centers of tribal rug production. The weavers in Nahavand produce mostly tribal and nomadic rugs.

The designs are individual and woven without any graphing or sketching aid. They are traditional to the weaver’s family or left to the weaver’s imagination and usually include semi-floral and semi-geometric patterns with many small Caucasian motifs surrounding the medallion.

Nahavand rugs are examples of fine tribal rugs with softer and better quality wool, woven with a more even texture. The Persian symmetrical knot is used in weaving, as is the Turkish symmetrical knot. Many of the rugs are woven on cotton warp and weft but there are also a great number of these rugs woven on wool warp and weft. The wool is frequently hand spun and dyed with vegetable dyes. Nahavand rugs are of good quality and will last a lifetime.

 

Persian Nain-Handmade in Iran

The rugs from Nain, a desert city in central Iran are among the finest hand-knotted carpets produced in modern Iran.

It takes many years of apprenticeship for a weaver to achieve the designation of a master weaver and only master wears can weave Nain rugs. It would take many months or even several years for a master weaver to complete a single Nain rug, depending on the fineness of knots and size.

The knots in the Nain rug contain some 250-500 knots or more in square inches. These rugs are woven with the Persian symmetrical knot and are constructed of wool and silk mixture pile woven on cotton foundation.

Nain is neighboring Isfahan, and for this very reason, the designs follow the famous Isfahan, influenced by Shah Abbas’s design. They usually include skillfully drawn flowers, foliages, and vines.

The color palette used in Nain rugs is kept simple and limited to variations of blue, beige, and shades of brown. Nain rugs mostly come in blue, beige, and rarely in gorgeous red.

 

Persian Nain-Habibian-Handmade in Iran

 The rugs from Nain, a desert city in central Iran are among the finest hand-knotted carpets produced in modern Iran.

It takes many years of apprenticeship for a weaver to achieve the designation of the master weaver and only master wears can weave Nain rugs. It would take many months or even several years for a master weaver to complete a single Nain rug, depending on the fineness of knots and size. 

The knots in the Nain rugs contain some 250-500 knots or more in square inches. These rugs are woven with the Persian symmetrical knot and are constructed of wool and silk mixture pile woven on cotton foundation.

Nain is neighboring Isfahan, and for this very reason, the designs follow the famous Isfahan, influenced by Shah Abbas’s design. They usually include skillfully drawn flowers, foliages, and vines.

The color palette used in Nain rugs is kept simple and limited to variations of blue, beige, and shades of brown. Nain rugs mostly come in blue, beige, and rarely in gorgeous red.

 

SHIRAZ Qashqaie-Handmade in Iran

Qashqai rugs are from the southern region of Iran and are all hand-woven. The pile of the rugs is made of very lustrous and fine wool that has been shorn from local herds of sheep and colored mainly with natural dyes.

SILK Qum-Handmade in Iran

 Professional weavers weave the rugs. taking many years of apprenticeship to achieve the designation of a master weaver. They are hand-knotted with 600 KPSI of pure silk on a silk foundation.

Persian Senneh-Handmade in Iran

Senneh has located about the northwest of Iran, a suburb of the capital city of Sanandaj, the province of Kurdistan. The rugs are finely woven, and contain intricate, tiny Herati and both in repeating rows. 

A few examples contain a pole medallion or diamonds. The delicate designs are achieved by the use of curved wefts. The most distinctive design is with geometric shapes usually in contrasting colors, with interlacing geometric motifs. 

Coloring is usually rich based on red, dark blue, gold, black, and ivory. Antique Persian Sennehs are also among the most desired tribal rugs. Their production is limited and the finely drawn designs have not lent themselves to the larger knotted reproductions, being a more desirable and different character from other rugs.

New Wool & Silk Persian Tabriz Handmade in Iran

Tabriz the largest carpet-producing center in Iran is a Mecca of the rug industry.

Yalameh rugs generally last a long time because of their extreme durability. Yalameh rugs are one of the top tribal carpets produced in Iran today. They utilize traditional nomadic methods to produce their rugs. The wool is entirely hand-spun, dyed with natural vegetable dyes, and hand-knotted on primarily a wool foundation.

The red dye is obtained from madder, the yellow with weld and madder, the beige with barley, the brown with the husk of walnuts, and the blue with indigo.

The color and the sheen of the wool are unmatched. Yalameh carpets are not produced in great numbers, making them rare. They are highly sought after by westerners and designers due to their beauty and versatility. A Yalameh rug can last for several generations.

 

Baluchi Tribal-Handmade in Pakistan

Baluchi is made by Afgan refugees in Pakistan using wool on a pile (1/4" ) and foundation. Baluch rugs have a strong tribal character.

Bokhara rugs are made in Pakistan using very fine soft and silky wool on the pile (1/4" high) and white cotton on the fringes foundation. Kazak-Handmade in Pakistan
